James Farrell

I help leaders find freer thinking, greater clarity and better outcomes for themselves, their people and the planet. Specialisms in working outdoors, mental health and ADHD.

I am James, a warm, curious and genuine coach and environmentalist. I care deeply about the challenges and opportunities my clients face, and I am dedicated to helping overcome them.

My practice is grounded in leadership and in Nature. I have worked in the environment sector for over 30 years, in roles including executive leadership, business management, operations, partnerships and policy. Helping others achieve good things for people and planet.

Working as a leader sparked my interest in coaching. The more I learn, the more fascinated I become by its potential.

In coach ‘jargon’, my work is humanist and existential, and draws deeply on positive psychology. I work with the whole person – body and mind – in context of the community and ecological systems we live within. This can involve working outdoors, or bringing nature ‘into’ our work indoors.

My credentials and registrations include:
– Professional Certified Coach (ICF)
– Corporate Member, Association for Coaching
– Mental Health Coach, Modern Health
– Accredited ADHD Coach, Assocation for Coaching
– Member, Association for Psychological Therapies
– Member, Chartered Institute of Ecology & Environmental Management
– Member, Society for the Environment
– MSc Nature Conservation
– Chartered Environmentalist (CIEEM & SocEnv)

I have a range of complementary qualifications including in Systems Thinking, the Science of Happiness, Self Determination Theory, ADHD Coaching and Mind Management Skills for Life.

I am the Founder of the ICF Accredited training course in Nature Based Coaching Skills.

My sister business is The Human Nature Partnership, where we enable organisations to connect to nature. I am the founder of community organisation Building Green, and I work at a Government agency.

I am an author (‘Being in Nature – 20 practices to help you flourish in a busy world’), TEDx Speaker (‘Let Nature Be Your Coach’), film maker, facilitator and trainer.

* Testimonials *

Our first session involved a walk with nature – taking me away from the pressures of everyday business life really helped me think about what is important to me. I have been able to make some tricky career decisions with a lot more clarity. (Alice, Marketing Director)

You worked with me in a very gentle and sensitive way, which was what I needed given the topics I was bringing. You were incredibly supportive, which I valued greatly – I really felt you partnered with me to help me to achieve my goals. (Nickie, Head of Learning)

James is a cool coach – different in style and he goes at an easy pace. His levels of abstraction that underpin his questions are terrific and really bring a new angle to the coaching conversation. Really interesting approach and highly effective coaching. (Simon, Business Consultant)

James is a brilliant coach who has a calm, patient, professional manner and understands ADHD brains. He is open-minded, innovative and intuitive in his coaching approach, recognising styles that work best – for example a coaching call with me sitting outside in nature and him using that as part of our coaching conversation. (Sophie, Environment Advisor)
